Outdoor Life – Hunting and Fishing

Do you dream of hunting ptarmigan in Kautokeino with bird dogs, woodland grouse in Pasvik and hares on Sørøya as well as fishing winter cod in the Arctic Sea, trout lure fishing, salmon flyfishing in the famour Alta River and icefishing on the Finnmark plateau. If so our Hunting and Fishing programme is your dream come true.

The range of potential experiences is endless. Our instructors know all the best hunting and fishing grounds and have the local knowledge and skills to maximise your catch. You will make your own fishing rod and lures, learn new skills and techniques and experience a wide range of fishing and hunting environments whilst making new friends and enjoying the great outdoors. One hunting license covers the whole of Finnmark and the ptarmigan season lasts from 10 September to 15 March. For the less experienced you will gain the knowledge and skills necessary for your hunting license and can continue on to the practical examination for big game.

The context of this course is that fishermen and hunters are active participants in nature and harvest the surplus of the seasons. Through theory and practical application our objective is to increase your knowledge, skills and experience as relevant to outdoor living, hunting and fishing. Active participation and a desire to contribute your own knowledge and skills makes for a great year of interacting and cooperating with the other students on your course.

Practical Information
To make the most of the year it is advised that you bring your own shotgun or obtain one after you’ve received your hunting licence. You will also need personal hiking and safety equipment for trips in the autumn and winter. If you have your own fishing gear then bring it along and if you are interested in bringing your own bird dog please contact the school in advance.
